You do NOT need to take out your tampon when you swim or go to the restroom. Doctors advise you not to wear them to bed because of the length of time you are asleep. I hope that helped!! If you sleep for more than 8 hours you should wear a pad instead. Otherwise it is ok to wear a tampon.

∙ 9y agoYou do not need to remove a tampon when you go to the restroom - if using tampons with strings then you should move the string out of the way so it doesn't get wet as you urinate. The string can act like a wick allowing bacteria to move up the string into the vagina, so you need to keep it clean.
You do not need to remove a tampon when you go swimming - many people use tampons, sponges, menstrual cups, or softcups during menstruation to allow them to go swimming, but with tampons you would have to time it so you can insert a fresh tampon before swimming and tuck-in the string.
You do need to remove the tampon when you sleep - tampons need to be changed every 4-6 hours which you can't do while sleeping, when laying down less blood flows down into the vagina so it can result in you using too high an absorbency, and you need to alternate with pads sometimes.

well depending on your ages, your friend should understand. if its a guy friend i know it will be uncomfortable, but if you try explaining the situation about periods and swimming and THEN tell him, you should be fine. you should use a tampon in the water and be just fine with out leaks, but make sure u take a restroom break to change the tampon after about 2 hours in the pool.
