To replace the ball joints on a 1987 F250 4x4, start by safely lifting the vehicle and removing the front wheel. Next, disconnect the brake caliper and rotor, then remove the tie rod end and lower control arm. Use a ball joint press to remove the old ball joints from the control arm and install the new ones. Finally, reassemble all components, ensuring everything is torqued to specification, and repeat on the other side if necessary.
usually you have to press, or pound with a hammer...if the joints are riveted in you need to break the rivets, perhaps with a chisel...on rare occasion the joints are not servicable and the whole control arm need to be replaced
Remove the tire and wheel. Remove the brake pad Springs. The brake pads and break assembly will come off. Reverse the process to install the new brake pads.
Jack up the F250's front end. Remove the wheel. Remove the locking assembly, this will be different depending on which assembly is used (skip this step it the F250 has the slide on type rotor.) Unbolt the brake caliper and swivel it out of the way. The rotor was either unbolted during the locking hub removal, or it is the slide on type that will now just pull off.

Ball joints can be a very time consuming affair, but is a required maintenance item for most trucks. The first step is usually removing the steering knuckle. This process is different for various vehicles. To do this you must remove the wheel. Remove the outer tie rod for the steering. Detach brake caliper from knuckle, and set aside. Remove brake rotor. Remove the ball joint retaining nuts. remove or disconnect the axle if 4wd is applicable. Remove the steering knuckle. On most fords the upper ball joint is replaced as one piece with the upper control arm mounted on the frame by two bolts. This may be different on the larger trucks. The lower ball joint should be pressed out and in with a ball joint press (Which can be very expensive.) When finished with ball joints an alignment is needed on many vehicles. That is just a real quick list of things to do on most ball joint jobs. I hope it is helpful.
there is an actuator in the steering column that is broken. its a small aluminum piece that is common to break. taking apart a good portion of the steering column is necessary for replacement.
