I can answer this because I am in the middle of a lot of dental work because I did not take care of my teeth for years.
I did brush them 2 times a day, but had not seen a dentist in 6 years. Finally one of my teeth got so infected I caved and went in. I am now looking at a pulled tooth, 2 root canals and a crown and a bridge needed.
As well, my first cleaning took almost 3 hours because they had to do something called "scaling" which is basically scraping all the plaque and tartar off my teeth and it took a loooong time.
And although my insurance pays 80%, I am still paying over $5000.00 out of my pocket to have everything fixed!
