in the arteries the blood is undr high pressure due to the fact that the heart has just pushed the blood under pressure into the arteries (firstly from the atrium into the ventricle, then the ventricle into the aorta if the bloodis going to be pumped to the body the largest artery in the body) this firstly allows the blood to travel a great distance around the body to where it is needed quickly so that it reduces the need for an oxygen debt within the cells within muscles and organs.
