I had a ganglion cyst removed from the dorsal region of my right wrist in 2009. The surgery was done outpatient by an orthopedic surgeon. It hurt pretty bad for the first three days and the doctor advised me to keep it in the supline (top of wrist relaxes by having fingers rest higher than wrist and base of hand) position. It helped to use a small pillow. I went to my followup visit with the doctor 7-10 days after the surgery and they removed the bandages and stitches. By then, the pain was already less than it had been with the cyst. The doctor said I could start moving the wrist more but not to be too aggressive until the skin had fully mended. After the incision had completely healed and the scab was gone, I started actively stretching my wrist, fingers and arm. The doctor said I could receive physical therapy, but I never needed it. I do not advise popping your knuckles even though they might feel stiff. My improvement accelerated after I stopped popping my knuckles. In less than two months, it was feeling great and I had little or no pain.

Are there other cysts other than ganglion in the foot?

I have a ganglion cyst in my wrist, and I personally know two people with cysts- one has a ganglion cyst on the side of her wrist and one has a ganglion cyst on the top of her hand. One can also get cysts in other places of the body (especially near joints), but I'm not sure if cysts in other areas are also called "ganglion cysts".
