I am a jerk who feels it necessary to point out the obvious to people even though it's obvious what they meant because I feel it makes me appear smarter while at the same time belittling you. Here is an example: "There is no 'substitute' for strep throat. If you mean an over the counter medicine for strep throat", Robitussin may help you but there isn't really much that has antibiotic actions. You could try Echinaceia but theres no solid proof per word of the FDA that it works.

You can do what people used to do. Keep warm and quiet, get lots of rest, drink lots of liquids and help your body fight off the infection. And it will usually go away eventually.

Or you can do what people do today. Go to a doctor and get antibiotics and you'll feel better in a day or two.

Strep throat can lead to some really nasty after-effects, like Heart disease, horrible Arthritis, etc. So I would probably choose the latter. Antibiotics are really a miraculous thing.
