There is no specific cause for psoriasis, but there are multiple triggers like an infection or stress that can cause psoriasis to appear. It is thought that psoriasis is a genetic disease, so a person can inherit it from its ancestors. However, this is not necessarily true for all psoriasis sufferers. For every person that has psoriasis, the triggers are different: the doctor will give you multiple blood tests to take and talk to you to see if stress affected your condition.

In my case, I inherited the disease from my grandmother, it activated when I was 13 due to stress and a streptococcus infection. My advice is that if you have psoriasis and children, try to talk to them all the time about avoiding stress and get them to doctor every time they are sick.

How does psoriasis affect a tattoo?

Psoriasis is an immune system disorder that has no cure, but can be treated with topical creams, injections and pills. Some people with psoriasis develop new lesions when their skin gets cut (shaving etc.). Since tattoos break the skin it is possible for someone who has psoriasis to develop lesions on or around their tattoo. Each person is different and they need to use their own judgement. If you have psoriasis you can get a tattoo, but be prepared for the outcome. Your tattoo could stay clear until the day you die or it could get covered by psoriasis.
