Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a condition related to the HIV virus. The term AIDS is used when a persons CD4 (white blood cell) count falls below 200 cells per microliter. This decline could be due to multiple factors, like failing to seek treatment, a drug resistant strain of the virus, poor life style choice but ultimately the cause for AIDS is the decline in white cells caused by the HIV virus.
