Your appendix is beneficial and you should keep it if you can :) . Researchers believe the appendix is a place that "grows" and holds beneficial bacteria ("good" bacteria) and it quickly replenishes your digestive tract if you lose a lot of good bacteria all at once (like if you get diarrhea or have to fight an intestinal illness). You can live without it, but you can fight off diseases and parasites better if you have it.

If your appendix is inflamed, however, something has gone wrong and it is full of harmful bacteria, which is why your body goes septic (is filled with bad bacteria flooding the blood) if the appendix bursts.
