REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep plays a critical role in brain function, particularly in memory consolidation, emotional regulation, and cognitive processing. During this stage, brain activity resembles that of wakefulness, facilitating the integration of new information and enhancing problem-solving abilities. Additionally, REM sleep is linked to the processing of emotions, helping to mitigate stress and improve mood. Insufficient REM sleep can lead to cognitive deficits and emotional instability.
