Generally the only sign of tapeworms in dogs is finding proglottids (small egg packets that look like rice) in their feces. However, these proglottids are shed sporadically and not generally in large numbers so tapeworm infections often go undiagnosed.

However, in severe infestations, the dog may voimit, have diarrhea, become dehydrated or lethargic, and can die in extremely bad cases. Tapeworms are parasites, which means they take much needed nutrients from their host - if they take too many nutrients or block the intestines, they can eventually cause death.
