You should have some standard habits, including going to bed at about the same time every night. Avoid late dinners. An hour or so before bedtime, dim the lights, turn off the computer and TV and do a quiet activity. Hot tea, milk or a small snack (<100 calories!) may also help. Your room should be completely dark. If needed, try Melatonin or Benedryl. If you snore and wake up tired, you may have a sleep issue that you should have checked out. My doctor told me to give them 1 pill 20 minutes before bed. It is called Natrol Melatonin (3 mg). I bought it at Rite Aid. It does work and is safe with Straterra or Adderxall XR. Please ask your doctor first. Stop trying to go to sleep and decide to stay awake instead. Stay awake the whole night and make certain little tasks to do so that you can check that you were awake and did not nod off without noticing. This is a valid psychological technique that is discussed in the book Man's search for meaning. It's a technique of doing the opposite of what you have been trying. Anyway you can read more about it in that book. Another completely different suggestion is bless people, or wish people well, going through lists of people. Begin with yourself, and then those closest to you and then expand out wards to people less close to you. Another technique is while you are lying there pay attention to your breath going in and out of your nose. That is very boring and you will probably fall asleep. Especially count the breathes up to ten. Like in, out is one, and then in out again, two...and so on up to ten. then you have to start again at one. You will probably lose track of where you are. I've had the same problem for years. I finally tried melatonin, an inexpensive natural chemical that reminds your brain to sleep when it's dark. It's not a tranquilizer or mood-altering. You simply take one or two pills, lay down with a book and you're asleep in 20 minutes. If you haven't tried it, you really should. You can find it at any vitamin store and most drug stores.

Blue light can be effectively used in sleep therapy to improve sleep quality by helping to regulate the body's internal clock, or circadian rhythm. Exposure to blue light in the morning can help signal to the body that it is time to wake up, while avoiding blue light in the evening can help promote the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep. This can help improve sleep quality by aligning the body's natural sleep-wake cycle with the external environment.
