A dropped uterus, or uterine prolapse, occurs when the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments weaken, allowing the uterus to descend into the vaginal canal. This weakening can result from factors such as childbirth, especially multiple pregnancies, aging, hormonal changes, obesity, and chronic coughing or straining. Additionally, conditions that increase intra-abdominal pressure can contribute to the weakening of the support structures. Genetics may also play a role in predisposition to pelvic floor issues.
