There is a bit of controversy about how hair loses it's color. One of the reasons is extreme stress. Those apocryphal stories of a person's hair becoming white over night have been proven, and extremely rare. But hair will change color most often due to continuing stress.

Since it is a fact that this is one of the causes (one can't choose his life situation all the time), nutritional support could help with the problem. It is also a known fact that the B vitamins are nutritional factors to alleviate stress damage to the body.

If this is so, then it could not hurt to add a multivitamin to your diet which contains them. On a personal note, I have been using a B vitamin supplement for years, I am in my late 50's and have not turned gray. Perhaps it is because of the vitamins or because of genetics; I do not know. But I believe it is a factor.

What causes hair to turn gray at an older age?

As we get older, the pigment cells in our hair follicles gradually die. When there are fewer pigment cells in a hair follicle, that strand for hair will no longer contain as much melanin and will become a more transparent color, like gray, silver, and white, as it grows. As people continue to get older, fewer pigment cells will be around to produce melanin. Eventually, the hair will look completely gray.

Does msg cause gray hair?

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that monosodium glutamate (MSG) causes gray hair. Gray hair is primarily a result of aging and genetics, as the production of melanin decreases over time. While some studies have explored various dietary impacts on hair health, MSG has not been directly linked to graying hair. Therefore, it is not considered a factor in the process of hair turning gray.
