The muscles are connected to bones via tendons. Tendons are a very tough, fibrous structure that anchors the muscle to the bone and helps the muscle to perform its intended function (such as bending your arm or walking, etc). And let's not forget ligaments. They have attachment points and insertion points around the larger joints , i.e. ACL [the common football injury] is the Anterior Cruciate Ligament. This allows flexion and extension of the knee and provides stability and prevents your knee from bending the wrong way. Tendons and ligaments work together.
