You probably have the same problem I have - take a sample of your water to a pool store and have it tested. I did and needed to add alkalinity, pH enhancer, algaecide and one other chemical. You need a balance. Without doing this you could just continue to spin your wheels.
IN ADDITION:Water can get full. Meaning the water cannot and will not absorb any more chemicals no matter how much you add. It may need to be softened with a brine or saltwater filter. This will remove a lot of the chemicals in the water that are not needed and allow the chlorine to be dispersed properly.Enteric-coated products, buccal tablets, sublingual tablets, carcinogenic products, tertogenic products, cytotoxics, and extended-release drugs cannot be crushed for enteral feeding.

You cannot "contaminate" a chlorine pool or spa with salt or vice versa. Chlorine starts as salt. Chlorine generators use salt to make chlorine. Therefore your "salt" spa is already a chlorine spa, you are just not putting chlorine tablets in it. It is a very common misconception that a salt system is some how different than a chlorine system. There are no "salt generators" and the salt does nothing other than allow a "chlorine generator" to produce chlorine. We get this question almost every day and it's generally because customers are "sold" not "told" about the product they purchased. If you were expecting anything other than purchasing a device that makes chlorine from salt, you will be disappointed. Pool & Spa
