AC or ACN is Latin for "ante Christum [natum]" which literally means "before Christ". It is equivalent to BC, "before Christ" or BCE "before common era".

Don't confuse it with AD "anno Domini", meaning "in the year of the Lord" and refering to the time after Christ's birth. Equivalent is CE, "common era".

pairs with example years; mind correct order:

50 AC - AD 10 (Latin)

50 BC - AD 10 (English)

50 BCE - 10 CE (English, modern)
