Over a long period of time, physicians observed that the NORMAL white blood cell count in people ranged somewhere between 5,000 and 11,000 wbc (white blood cells) per cubic millimeter ( a really small area)... There are folks whose wbc range normally will run as low as 3,500 wbc (or lower) and other folks will run as much as 12,000 - 13,000 (and higher). If you are familiar with the "bell curve", that is how these doctors figured out how to report the GENERAL (normal) range... So, it could mean that you are one of those folks whose wbc count is a little above... or below, the generally expected range of wbc's. The wbc's also will vary depending on whether you have a virus or bacterial infection, also. In viral infections, the expected wbc count goes down (it can also go up, too.)... In bacterial infections, the wbc count usually goes up above the expected 11,000. However, there are exceptions to the rule as well... In the geriatric population, the white count can go down because the (older) person's immune system is being overwhelmed by the infection. We also see that in patients undergoing chemotherapy for cancer will have their wbc count go down... again, due to the immune system being surppressed by the chemotherapy. Get's complicated, doesn't it...
This means that this person is sick and needs to build up the white blood cell count.
When you get sick, your white blood cell count is higher than normal your immune system, your white blood cell count can drop to very low levels.
Why my white blood cell count is 5.9??
A white blood cell count of 11.9 indicates an extremely low blood cell count. This means that your body doesn't have enough natural antibodies to fight infection.
If you have a high white blood cell count it could mean any number of things that you need to see Your Local Medical Doctor about very soon
WBC count of 56,000 Means you have chronic lymphocytic leukemia
Do you mean "What type of cell count test determines an infection?" Because that would be White Blood Cell Count Test. The question you asked makes no sense at all.
A white blood cell count of 10.6 x 10^9 cells per liter is slightly elevated, as the normal range is typically between 4.5 to 11.0 x 10^9 cells per liter. This could indicate an infection, inflammation, or other immune system response in the body. Further evaluation, including a differential white blood cell count and assessment of clinical symptoms, would be necessary to determine the specific cause of the elevated white blood cell count.
A normal white blood cell count is within the range of 4,500 to 10,000 cells/mcL, so a count of 40,000 is very high. This would indicate that the body is responding to an infection.
It could mean that you are struggling with some sort of infection.
A white cell count of 14.5 indicates an elevated number of white blood cells in the body, which could be a sign of infection, inflammation, or other medical conditions. Further evaluation by a healthcare provider is needed to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.
Some infections can occasionally cause a low white cell count. Repeat the count regularly. If it returns to normal no need to worry. If the child also has anemia or low platelet count other investigations will be needed.
