The normal glomerular filtration rate (for humans) is 125mL/min or 180L/day.

A filtration rate of 50mL/min (or 50L/day) is greatly reduced, which means that there will be less excretion and more reabsorption of solutes, water, etc. by the kidneys.

Causes of decreased GFR include; drop in arterial blood pressure (eg. haemorrhage), sympathetic nerve stimulation and the release of renin.
