The most common cause of white vaginal discharge, soreness and redness is THRUSH. This could occur at any time in a woman's life, however pregnant women have been known to have these symptoms more commonly. Thrush is an increase in Fungi, and sometimes could be as a result of hormonal imbalance during pregnancy and at other times, could be as a result of antibiotics, which kills good bacteria and therefore changes the normal or natural way nature intended it to be.
Other causes could be wearing very tight clothing and/or using harsh soaps and chemicals, to wash the vagina area such as using disinfectant soaps, perfumed soaps, etc.
The symptoms can be quite distressing as there is itching and the urge to scratch, unfortunately, scratching the area may make the symptoms worse, since the redness and soreness are often worsened by scratching the area.
Treatment, the chemist/Pharmacist will provide adequate medication for you, some are tablets inserted in the vagina or if this feels uncomfortable for you, then ask the Pharmacist for oral tablets which could swallow instead.
The treatment is quite effective and symptoms disappear soon after medication, you start to experience a great relief almost 24 hours afterwards or in about two to three days. The fact is there is nothing unusual about Thrush as it is very common and occurs at least once in every woman's lifetime, so do not despair and do not worry.
