If you smoke when you already have a cough it will make it worse and may cause it to become chronic. Then you spread your spit and germs and smelly smoking breath all over everyone else.
Well I'm not a doctor, but I do know that after you quit smoking you occasionally cough up phlegm for anywhere up to a year after you quit. This is an effect from the lungs healing themselves.

are there side effects to smoking sage? hmmm i'd say, as the effect is similar to cannabis it may have similar effects on the brain. and you will be at risk to the usual problems with smoking anything i.e tar in your lungs, mucus membrane breakdown causing smokers cough, lung cancer etc.
