Surprisingly anorexics will do workouts to the point of exhaustion. Anorexia is a disorder of control, not weight loss. Most often, the anorexic will feel vulnerable and defenseless in other areas of her life. This one area is one that she can control. While she may tell herself that she is "losing weight", it is an issue of control.

Two to four hour workouts are not unusual for this disorder. Some run, some use gym equipment, and others do classic exercises. One warning sign to watch for is that the anorexic will do this the first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. This is the danger phase where they have lost a proper body image and are skewing into the "fat is bad" image.

See professional help if your loved one is "losing weight" and exhibits an inordinate interest in exercise, especially if she is counting calories for this purpose and does not need to.
