You will bleed and you may get tetanus. Either of those is a good reason to see your doctor.

Apply direct pressure to the wound with a clean (sterile, if you have it) dressing and elevate the wound. Do not remove the dressing because that will start it bleeding again. If the victim bleeds through the dressing, add another on top. The victim is in less danger of bleeding to death from a punctured vein than artery but could still loose enough blood to cause hypovolemic shock. Keep the victim warm and elevate the legs to get blood to the brain if symptoms of shock appear.
