Urine is tested for REDUCING SUBSTANCES. Glucose, fructose, etc are reducing substances. This test is non-specific. How ever, there is another test "Osazone test" that can identify the difference. In some people with uncontrolled Diabetes, urine is tested for ketone bodies. Presence of ketone bodies in urine indicates that the patient is in trouble.
The two things that might indicate problems in health would be proteins and glucose. Proteins in filtrate or urine would indicate a possible kidney infection and glucose would indicate possible diabetes.

If you happen to be overweight, your chance of getting diabetes is higher than people with a healthy. However, that does not happen all the time. You might be fit and strong, but you might have diabetes too if your family members suffer from the illness.
