There is some evidence that inventor Rudolph Diesel ( died l9l3) committed suicide by jumping from a ship. The family tried, understandably, to hush it up. Diesel may have been in financial trouble, but was very well known to the general public- to this day he is a household word. The Diesel engine was well along its road to powerful progress, and was ideally adapted to German submarines, where steam would be too dangerous and impractical even on the surface. Other than Rudolph Diesel I am not aware of any suicides by inventors. Back to the draqing board indeed.
