140-170 beats per minute
By the beginning of the 9th week of pregnancy, the normal fetal heart rate is an average of 175 BPM. At this point it begins a rapid deceleration to the normal fetal heart rate for the middle of the pregnancy of about 120-180 BPM. There is also a slowing of the normal fetal heart rate in the last ten weeks of pregnancy, though the normal fetal heart rate is still about twice the normal adult's resting heart rate.
Starting at week 5 the fetal heart will accelerate at a rate of 3.3 beats per day for the next month. The fetal heart begins to beat at approximately the same rate as the mothers, which is 80 to 85 bpm. Below illustrates the approximate fetal heart rate for weeks 5 to 9, assuming a starting rate of 80 Week 5 starts at 80 and ends at 103 bpm Week 6 starts at 103 and ends at 126 bpm Week 7 starts at 126 and ends at 149 bpm Week 8 starts at 149 and ends at 172 bpm At week 9 the fetal heartbeat tends to beat within a range of 155 to 195 bpm. The fetal heart rate will begin to decrease and generally will fall within the range of 120 to 160 bpm by week 12

Not at all. The baby has a slower heartbeat when it is forming, don't you worry it will more than likely skyrocket up to somewhere between 120-170 in the next couple weeks :) Starting at week 5 the fetal heart will accelerate at a rate of 3.3 beats per day for the next month. An unborn baby's heart rate normally ranges from 120-160 beats per minute

The fetal mass increases at the greatest rate between weeks 9 to 14 of pregnancy. This period is known as the "growth spurt" stage of fetal development, where the baby's organs and body structures rapidly form and grow.
Don't know for sure. We just had ours measured at 8 weeks 0 days, and it was 168. Web using Google seems to imply that fetal heart rate peaks at 9 weeks of development, and 179 isn't way too high. But you should do the search yourself. I used this search: heart rate week fetal OR fetus One source says: "Beginning at a rate near the mother's, at approximately 80-85 B/M at the start of the 5th week, the heart rate accelerates to a mean of 175 B/M (+/-20 = 2SD) at 9.2 LMP weeks. It then abruptly begins to decelerate. This increase is approximately 10 beats every 3 days until the early 9th week." Note that LMP = last missed period; meaning, the conventional measurement of gestational age. Another source says "Normal heart rate at 6 weeks is 90-113 bpm and at 9 weeks is 144-170 bpm." So...it's hard to say. Sounds like it's not way to high to me. BUT ASK YOUR DOCTOR.
I don't know what do you mean by "it was only around 120bpm"... But 120 is higher than 110. Actually both heart beat rates are normal, so you shouldn't worry about that. They are both in the normal range.
