Retrograde menstruation is when the blood and uterine tissue expelled during menstruation travels backwards up into the cervix. This may include the blood and uterine tissue flowing up into the fallopian tubes and elsewhere in the abdomen. This was believed to be a cause of Endometriosis however research has largely rejected this idea.
