There is currently no cure for influenza. There are treatments that ameliorate the severity of the symptoms and that shorten the duration of the infection, and there are vaccines to prevent the flu. But nothing cures it like, for example, an antibiotic cures a bacterial infection, or like surgery cures appendicitis.

Flu comes in many different varieties. Flu viruses spread from person to person and animal to animal. Sometimes a person or animal catches two different types of flu at the same time and the two get together and create a different type of flu. Frequently the new type does nothing. Sometimes the new type is so strong that it kills everyone who catches it before they spread it. Then sometimes, a new powerful variety is created that will spread. Swine Flu is that type of flu. People originally caught it from pigs. Both people and pigs catch it. Like all cases of flu, most people will get over it after being sick for a week or two. After that they will be immune to that particular flu for the rest of their life. They will get sick from the many other types of flu. There is a treatment for virus infections. Swine flu responds to it.
