The calcaneus bone is in the heal bone in the foot. It has a halge tuberosity to the posterior that forms the atachment for the Achilles tendon. The reason for the tuberosty as aposd to a direct attachment is that it moves the pivot for the joint forwards increasing the leverage the joint provides and so making it possible to lift the whole body weight using the posterior muscles of the leg.
