One disease caused by eating poorly cooked infected pork is called Trichinosis. Also known as trichinellosis, it is a parasitic disease that is most common in developing countries, where pigs are fed raw/undercooked meat. Although most cases of Trichinosis have very minor or no symptoms, it is possible for a) adult worms to get into the intestines, causing nausea, heartburn, diarrhea and dyspepsia, or b) adult worms entering the central nervous system, which can cause severe neurological deficits and even death. There is currently no vaccine for Trichinosis, although administration of anthelmintics has been found effective at early stages of infection.
