A hip replacement consist of a cup, and a stem (that sits in the femur). Typically a surgeon will either press fit a hip replacement in (fit in tight, and allow the bone to grow into it), or use a bone cement to secure the implant in position.

A hybrid typically means he will cement one component in, and press fit the other.
