It is called a "killer" T-cell
Some white blood cells are phagocytes. The word means "cell that eats".
Antibodies. phagocyte - a white blood cell
Phagocytes are a type of white blood cell, and they surround and eat invaders in the body.
Phagocytes A type of white blood cell the "eats" dead cells, and other "debris" in the blood.----------------------------- A phagocyte is a white blood cell that 'engulfs' not only dead cells and debris but also reacts against Pathogens (disease causing micro-organisms). There are different types of phagocytes e.g. Macrophages or Neutrophils. The process where a Phagocyte 'disposes' of a pathogen is called phagocytosis, when a bacteria attaches to a phagocyte, using ligands, The phagocyte forms Pseudopods (cytoplasmic arms) that envelope the pathogen, the Psuedopodia then fuse, creating a membrane, enclosing the pathogen forming a phagosome, this moves deeper within the cell to then form with a lysosome forming a phagolysosome (not really imaginitive naming i know, but scientists aren't known for their imaginative naming ). the lysosome contains enzymes (you guessed it, lysozyme) the lysozyme destroys the bacterial cell walls allowing hydrolytic enzymes to digest the rest of the pathogen.sources : Collins As Biology for AQA textbook*** white blood cells that engulf and destroy pathogens***white blood cells
Red blood cells do not have the ability to "eat" other cells because they lack organelles like lysosomes. White blood cells, on the other hand, are the cells of the immune system and are responsible for fighting off infections and foreign substances in the body. If a white blood cell encounters a red blood cell, it may recognize it as a non-threatening cell and not attack it.
The term for cells that eat is phagocytes. For example, macrophages which eat invading organisms in the human body would be called a phagocytic cell. "Phag" comes from the Greek which means "eat."
Larger bacillus. Multi-celled organisms. White blood cells.
Macrophages phagocytize (eat) bad things (pathogens)
Cells are specialized to perform specific functions in multicellular organisms, such as carrying oxygen (red blood cells), fighting infections (white blood cells), or transmitting electrical signals in the brain (neurons). Each type of cell is adapted to its particular role through its structure and function.
A white tiger is a teritory consumer so no animal eats white tiger.
A monocyte is a specific type of leukocyte (white blood cell) that picks up debris and other waste in the body. It develops into macrophages and "eats" the bad substances that have entered the body. It is the third most common WBC in the body.
