Amniocentesis is a prenatal medical procedure done in order to examine a baby's DNA to find any potential genetic abnormalities. In this procedure, a small portion of amniotic fluid is removed from the amniotic sack (around the fetus, which contains fetal tissues) and is studied for abnormal chromosomes.
