Amnesia is a condition where memory is lost or one is unable to keep things in memory.
While most amnesia is partial or temporary, some long-term memory loss can persist. It is usually caused by injury or harm to portions of the brain (e.g. from impact, cranial operations, drugs, or alcohol). Traumatic psychological amnesia can occur when the conscious mind refuses to access painful memories.
