The Endothelium is a single layer of cells which line the internal wall of blood vessels. It enables the blood to flow smoothly inside the blood vessels. In the past it was considered to be just a "Teflon" like coating. Today scientists know that the endothelium has many different biological actions, like controlling blood pressure, inflammation, clotting and oxidation processes making it a critical component in protection against cardiovascular diseases.
