Platelets (thrombocytes) are not complete cells. Rather, they are fragments of giant cells present only in bone marrow. when a blood vessel is damaged, platelets form a plug that seals the vessel, and injured tissues release molecules that help the clotting process.

To add more i would like to add that blood clotting happens because of blood platelets, these blood platelets are present in the blood stream in the red and white blood cells, so in order to have proper blood clotting one has to have sound immune system and balance diet as well.
