I believe you mean a Staphylococcus infection. It is a becteria that the body is readily and frequently exposed to. This bacteria exists on the skin of most people and causes no harm. But in a person with a weakened immune system, the bacteria can grow unchecked and cause various symptoms from pimples and rashes all the way to life threatening disease like pneumonia and even meningitis.

The big threat in hospitals is MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus). MRSA is a staph infection that has become resistant to many anti-biotics used today and is very hard to kill.
