What is the 'salty' water in the mother's womb?

It is amniotic fluid. Basically, inside the womb, the baby is inside a 'sac', called the amniotic sac. It's kind of like a balloon. This sac is full of liquid (the amniotic fluid) and it protects the unborn baby from things like small knocks and bumps that the mother receives.
