There are many diseases which destroy lymphocytes. You are most likely thinking of HIV infection though. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) specifically enters CD4 T cells, a specific type of lymphocyte also known as helper T cell. It reproduces inside these cells and ultimately destroys them, slowly depleting the person of all of their CD4 T cells. This leads to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
Antibodies
When the growth of these lymphocytes is maintained through continued infection or autoimmune disease, a malignant cell can arise and replace the normal lymphocytes.

it begins as a disease of memory because the disease destroys brain cells and that makes you loose your memory.
HIV infects only the CD4 cells of the immune system, and it destroys lymphocytes.
Malaria is a disease that destroys red blood cells.
As with anything, too much is bad. Lymphocytes increase in response to an infection. A run-away increase may reflect some bad disease.
