That feeling is commonly known as dread or horror. It typically involves a strong sense of fear and apprehension towards something unsettling or frightening.

If one is feeling hopeless it may be a sign of depression, in which case one can go to the doctor to be diagnosed with depression and possibly prescribed with an anti-depressant to help one overcome their feeling of hopelessness. Another way of overcoming hopelessness is by determining the root of the emotion and dealing with that. Anthony Scioli and Henry Biller, in their book "Hope in the Age of Anxiety," postulate that there are nine forms of hopelessness and each form has its own methods of being overcome.
