The small bowel is the part of the digestive system right after the stomach. It is smaller in diameter than the large bowel but it is very long, about 22 feet. It's function is to take out all the nutrients from the food you eat and move them into the blood vessels to go to all of your cells. By the time all the nutrients are removed, what is left is moved into the large intestine when most of the water used for digestion is removed. The rest will be moved out of the colon as a waste called feces.
