Ascarids in horses -

*ingestion as egg into stomach -

egg hatches to larvae which penetrates through gut wall into lymph system -

travels via the lymph system to the liver then

travels to heart and lungs in the bloodstream

is coughed up into the throat and swallowed again into stomach

passes through stomach to the intestines and matures there into adult worm

lays around 2000 eggs in the intestines (adult worm normally around 5 inches)

*eggs are passed out onto the pasture

from * to * takes around 3 months

eggs can survive for appx. 1 year
