Because of advances in field of medical technologies, a large no. of tests are available to detect cardiovascular diseases. But only a few of them are followed routinely, mostly because of cost-effective factors.

The various tests include:

  • BLOOD LIPID PROFILE;since high hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor:- Blood test for Total cholesterol, HDL(high density lipoproteins), LDL(low density lipoproteins), Triglycerides.
  • TEST FOR CARDIAC INJURY MARKERS- blood levels of CPK-MB (creatinine phosphokinase), myoglobins, troponin I, LDH isoenzymes (lactate dehydrogenase), Highly selective C-reactive protein, Fatty acid binding protein
  • Electrocardiography (ECG)
  • Angiography (to check for blockage)
  • Echocardiography- 2D echocardiography ,doppler echocardiography, stress echocardiography
  • MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
  • CT (computerised tomogram)
  • Nuclear cardiology- here, a radioactive isotope is injected into the patient and a special camera for radionuclide imaging is used to study the emissions
