The process of egg formation in females is called oogenesis. It involves the maturation and development of immature egg cells (oocytes) in the ovaries.
Sperm production, or spermatogenesis, occurs in the testes of males and involves the formation of haploid sperm cells. Egg production, or oogenesis, takes place in the ovaries of females and results in the formation of haploid egg cells.
