The gold standard means it is the test or tests that all other tests are compared to. It is what is prefered or the "best test". Getting both a NCS and EMG for diagnosing CTS is the gold standard.
Severe pain during an electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction study is not common, but some discomfort is expected due to the nature of the tests. Patients may experience mild to moderate pain from the needle insertions during the EMG or a tingling sensation during nerve conduction studies. However, if a patient experiences severe pain, they should inform the technician or physician, as adjustments can often be made to improve comfort. Overall, while some discomfort is normal, severe pain should not be a typical experience.
You should really only need one test if done correctly. The gold standard is a Nerve conduction study WITH an EMG study. Now if it has been several yrs since your last test, then yes your doctor may want to test you again to see where you are at in your condition.
A neurologist is a MD who specializes in the study, diagnosis and treatment of nervous system issues. As the nervous system pervades the entire body, this is a large field of study and calls for specialization.
A pinched nerve can cause symptoms such as pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness in the affected area. A healthcare provider can diagnose a pinched nerve through a physical exam, possibly followed by imaging tests like an MRI or nerve conduction study to confirm the diagnosis. If you suspect you have a pinched nerve, it is best to consult a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and treatment.
Neuropathology is the study of nerve disease.

Neurectomy is surgical removal of a nerve
"No Response," or NR, generally occurs during the nerve conduction portion of an electrodiagnsotic examination (often called an EMG). When performing a nerve conduction study an electrical impulse is transmitted through a nerve and recorded at a point distant to that point of stimulation. Normally when this impulse is recorded as a waveform that is produced on the screen for the electromyographer to evaluate. An NR occurs when a waveform cannot be elicited with an electrical impulse. This finding suggests that the nerve being tested has suffered loss of function of some or all of its axons. This does not mean that the nerve being studied is completely dead, but it does suggest significant loss of function in that particular nerve. This "NR" finding may also may be the result of a technical error on the part of the electromyographer.

The stimulus that you would use to study nerve physiology would be internal and external stimulus to the body. The study of the nervous system would help in analyzing the human anatomy.
To study the physiology of nerve fibers, you would need to isolate a specific muscle and the nerve innervating that muscle. This allows for the investigation of the interaction between the nerve and muscle, observing the transmission of signals and studying the response of the muscle to nerve stimulation. Commonly studied muscles and nerves in this context include the gastrocnemius muscle and the sciatic nerve in animal models.
