Pain managment. I broke my L2-4 transverse processes and that all they did for me. 2yrs later I am still having issues with my back. I've gone for injections with little comfort. Next step is an appointment with the surgeon.

Transverse process fracture symptoms?

From my experience, it hurts on the side it broke on mostly. The transverse process are the wings that stick out from the vertebre. These are the spots on the spine where muscles and other tissue connect. Standing and sitting still seems to keep the pain at bay. Movement on the other hand causes sharp pains to shoot from the spot down my spine. Laying seems to cause major discomfort. I'm not a doctor, just someone who recent had a transverse process fracture. Hope this helps you out.

You're in the process of splinting an airman's fractured lower leg Where should the splint extend to?

A splint for a fractured lower leg should extend from above the knee to below the ankle. The general rule of splinting is:Immobilise the bone, above and below the fracture, and immobilise the joints, above and below the fracture. If the fracture is compounded, (bone pierces through the skin),DO NOT push the bone backCover to prevent infection and make the splint the current shape of the legDO NOT manipulate the limb to suit the splint.

Is there still pain a week after a fracture?

Usually yes. The duration of the pain will depend on where the fracture is. For example, the pain from a fractured rib can last 6 weeks- 2 months since this area is always moving when you breathe and takes longer to heal. I have fractured my rib twice and my ankle and the pain for both lasted for quite a while. Just rest it as much as you can and get as much calcium and vitamin D as you can to help the healing process of the bone.

How do you fix a fractured skull?

Skull fractures take a few months to heal. When fracturing the skull the healing process takes a lot longer than any other fracture, like a fracture in the wrist or foot. Because of how much was damage and depending on the area of the fracture and the extent of the damage, the healing process could take up to a year, and in some cases even longer. Once you fracture your skull the healing process also includes the healing of the brain itself. You can't just fracture the skull and get on with your life. Depending on the force that fractured your skull you can end up with memory loss, brain damage, and other nerve problems.
