A sore throat may be more than just one of the symptoms of a cold. It could be from a bacterial infection and possibly caused by a more aggressive strep bacteria. Any sore throat of unkown origin should be evaluated by a health professional.

People use humidifiers in their homes, at times, because excessively dry air will cause the mucous membranes of the nose and throat to dry out, which can give you a sore throat. Too much humidity is as bad or worse than too little, because it promotes the growth of mold. A moldy house can become unlivable.

It simply mean that you have got an inflammation or a problem with your throat. This can be a problem of various severity, from hardly noticeable to a killing experience. It is your body's way of telling you that something is going on, and you should try to take care of it. Allergic reactions can easily cause a sore throat. A viral infection often causes a sore throat. A bacterial infection also may cause a sore throat. Most people find themselves with a sore throat due to a virus or an allergic reaction, or even a combination of the two. (This is why doctors try to restrict the use of penicillin, as it does no good against virus or allergies.) Some people with a bacterial infection can be easily helped with penicillin. Where as the body will clear up most bacterial infections on its own, there are certain aggressive bacterias we want some help with. In absolutely worst case scenario, you are in for a killing experience without medicine like antibiotics. If the sore throat develops slowly, then no panic. If the sore throat develops at ultra speed, really red, tender, even problems with toung or cheeks, Rush to the doctor. A sore throat only mean that the body (throat) is experiencing something it would rather not.
