Usually when the top of your shin hurts it could mean many different things like if you haven't streatched out before running or if you have had any accedents on hurting your leg or even your anckle, that could effect the pain by the ligaments in your legs being messed with. I have that problem and all I do at home is soak them on hott water after running then I simply message my legs with soft lotion. ;)
