Ovarian pain is not something you can really isolate, in the sense of a person knowing for sure it is their ovary that hurts. Generally speaking, there are various things that could cause pain in the region of the ovaries (the pelvic region). Please do not assume it is an ovarian issue if you are having pain in your lower left pelvic region. You could have any issue ranging from the onset of a kidney infection to some sort of intestinal anomoly, even menstrual or ovulatory pain (many women do not realize that they can get cramps when they ovulate), in addition to problems with your primary sexual organs (the ovaries and their collective outlying parts).
That said, if it is an issue with your primary sexual organs, if you are sexually active, it could be an ectopic pregnancy, or even, in rare cases, some sort of fallopian blockage. As a precaution, you should probably get checked out--especially if you ARE, in fact, sexually active. Not to scare you but ectopic pregnancies can lead to hemorrhage and death if left untreated.
