The lungs are filled with 300million to 400million alveoli each. Alveoli (singular 'alveolus', meaning 'little cavity' in Latin) are tiny air sacs through which oxygen from the atmosphere and carbon dioxide from the blood are exchanged.

alveoli are in the respiration system.they are tiny air-sacs that oxygen goes into. the oxygen goes into the alveoli, then it goes thruogh them into the capilaries (part of the circulatory system). the capilaries are full of blood that has co2 in it, and it trades the co2 in the blood for the oxygen from the alveoli to take to the heart. the alveoli are then full of co2, and that's when you exhale. that is only a fraction of what happens when you take a breath - interesting, isn't it?
